About Me

Since you are here, let me introduce myself. Hi! I'm James. I am an experienced project manager, a software engineer with a passion for web development and cybersecurity, and a seasoned digital artist.

Through my various projects and roles, I've gained proficiency in Python and Java and acquired extensive knowledge in web development and mobile app programming. Additionally, I have experience as a graphic designer and a deep interest in applying my artistic skills, particularly in the area of UX/UI design.

Currently, I am an IT concierge with Rhino Network Solutions. This experience has not only allowed me to apply my technical skills but has also developed my skills as a project manager.

Additionally, I have applied my skills to several projects within the US Navy Reserves. Most notably, I authored the renovation and optimization streamlining of the DoN Readiness Review and Mobilization process, an initiative that included the development of an original web UI, tracking matrix, and multimedia FAQ and guidance. I’ve also worked on assessing security threats to DoD networks utilizing C++ to assess vulnerabilities, implement security measures, and Python for statistical analysis and data visualizations. I created a comprehensive online hub for LCSRON1 NRC San Jose, enabling servicemembers to track qualifications, complete trainings, view upcoming mobilizations and events, access distribution lists, and apply for new orders.

Feel free to reach out to me with any industry advice, job suggestions, or feedback you may have. If you would like to connect with me on LinkedIn, explore my GitHub repositories, or peruse my online gallery, you can find links beneath my profile picture

Thanks for stopping by. ;D

Graphic Designer / Fire Feak Design and Graphics
Current

Fire Freak is my indie design side gig that I’ve had since high school, formalizing it in 2011, just after joining the US Navy. I create original artwork, customize eCommerce storefronts, and ensure the timely delivery of intuitive user experiences. This involves translating business requirements into captivating visual designs through close collaboration with clients and end-users.

I also develop wireframes, product mockups, and interactive prototypes using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, XD), along with industry-standard prototyping tools like Sketch and Figma.

Training Manager and Web Developer / UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group)
Jun 2021 - Mar 2023

As Training Program Manager for UKG's EPIC Project Management Office (EPMO) team, I wrote and developed the EPMO internal network hub, drafted UKG standardization training materials, collaborated with senior leadership to create career path matrices, and researched and consolidated external resources to provide employees with access to tools for personal development and relevant career certifications.

I also managed the UKG SuiteX and UKG Pro product development teams, including prioritizing and resolving issues that impacted the on-time delivery of initiatives and product roadmap milestones.

Additionally, I developed custom analytical tools using Jira, Aha, and Monte Carlo, and drafted supplemental training and FAQ materials to support the management of the DevOps workflow. As a result, I successfully increased organizational readiness for development teams and senior program managers by 19% in FY2022 Q3.

Petty Officer First Class / US Navy and US Navy Reserves
Nov 2011 - Apr 2018 / May 2019 - Current

As Lead Petty Officer for Littoral Combat Squadron 1 Surface Warfare Detachment (LCSRON1) for Navy Reserve Command (NRC) San Jose, I oversee the execution of critical administrative tasks, training schedules, conduct mobilization checks, and lead LCS sailors to achieve mission readiness.

I was designated as the N6 (IT/Security Clearance Manager) for NRC San Jose and LCSRON1 Headquarters in San Diego, where I evaluated security threats to DoD networks using C++ and Python to assess vulnerabilities and implement security measures. I also created a comprehensive online hub for LCSRON1 NRC San Jose, enabling servicemembers to track qualifications, complete training, and view upcoming mobilizations and events.

Additionally, as a Public Affairs Officer (PAO), I leverage my experience in web development, pre-press production, product labeling, and social media marketing to contribute to the seamless dissemination of information, recruitment efforts, and the overall public image of the US Navy and its programs.
